Siberian Ginseng belongs to a class of herb known as adaptogens. These herbs help the body deal with and adapt to stress, both physical and mental, through actions on the adrenal glands and to a lesser extent, the pituitary gland. Indeed, Siberian ginseng is believed to aid and support the whole of the hormonal system that deals with the impact of stress. Siberian ginseng is also used for dbility, exhaustion, to help the body resist disease, and to increase stamina.

Very large clinical studies have proven the benefits of taking Siberian Ginseng, both in health and disease. In healthy subjects, Siberian ginseng helped the subjects better withstand heat, noise, motion and excercise; improved the quality of work under stressful conditions as well as work output and the ability to cope with an increased workload; improved atheletic performance; and increased metal alertness. In diseased subjects, Siberian ginseng was noted to lower serum cholesterol, reduce blood pressure when elevated (though it raises blood pressure when depressed), eliminate angina symptoms, improve kidney function, and increase the sense of well being. A further interesting aspect of Siberian ginseng is that it has been shown to be protective against bothe short term and long term X-ray radiation suggesting a benefit to those undergoing either diagnostic or therapeutic irradiation.
