The underlying causes can be increased prostaglandin production that can cause inflammation of the uterus and spasms. Treatment using natural remedies can be very effective in resolving this painful periods and treatment needs to be taken for about 3 months to really monitor the results. If the treatment is started in the early part of the cycle, often some improvement is seen by the time the next period arrives.
