This formula contains herbs with a reputation for helping prevent and reverse atherosclerosis: grape seed, hawthorn, mistletoe, horsetail, ginkgo biloba, green tea, fo-ti, rosemary, butcher`s broom and lime blossom. Many of these herbs are antioxidant, which is presumably no coincidence. A decrease in the integrity of the collagen matrix of the artery results in cholesterol deposits within the artery.

Anthocyanidin bioflavonoids (contained in grape seed and hawthorn), by improving the integrity of the collagen matrix of the artery, are believed to offer significant protection against atherosclerosis, and animal studies show that they may even reverse atherosclerosis. Hoffman considers the prime herb to be lime blossom, stating that this herb "has a specific anti-atheroma action and in long-term use will guard against the deposition of cholesterol, also helping the body in the removal of any that has already built up"
