Drug Abuse, Drug Addiction, Drug Dependence, Drug Rehabilitationposted on 1 February 2008The natural approach to help those recovering from drug addiction: High potency multi vitamin/mineral Super Supplemental Vitamins and Minerals as all nutrients are needed in high amounts (drugs rob the body of nutrients) B Vitamins are needed because of the stress associated with addiction Vitamin B Complex (1.5g) and magnesium(1g) to calm the body and reduce tremors L-Glutamine 500mg three times daily promotes healthy mental functioning and to precursor GABA, which is calming and which lessens cravings (Glutamic acid, along with taurine and vitamin B6 as cofactors, also raises GABA levels) Hops & Valerian with Passion Flower to help entrain good sleep patterns is also appropriate. L-Tyrosine 500mg twice daily to detoxify drugs to reduce their harmful effects. Also reduces desire for drugs/alcohol. Broccoli Formula - Helps the liver to detoxify is also appropriate. Phenylalanine (1.5g taken upon arising) for brain fuel and for withdrawal symptoms. Vitamin B5 (500mg) three times daily for adrenal support and to reduce stress. C vitamin 1g (as magnesium, calcium or sodium ascorbate) (2g) three hourly to help detoxify and lessen cravings. Siberian Ginseng helps those experiencing cocaine withdrawal. Noni Juice can help with cravings. Eat to avoid low blood sugar, which can increase cravings for drugs. See article Hypoglycaemia - Low Blood Sugar Drugs, expecially marijuana, weaken the immune system (can reduce immune system by 40% by damaging white blood cells - often results in candidiasis) so immune support is essential Astragalus Formula,L-Methionine 500mg supplementation may help patients with a heroin addiction, who often are unusually high in histamine. Detoxification from barbiturates or amphetamines may also be assisted by methionone. SAM low levels of serotonin and melatonin can be a result of poor methylation, significantly reduced psychological distress (chiefly anxiety and depression) in the detoxification and rehabilitation of opiate abusers. Taking Homocysteine Redux can build up levels of SAM. Address where possible circumstances that originally gave rise to drug abuse (eg poverty, depression, unemployment, ready availability of drugs). Factors such as broken homes or hereditary factors such as having alcoholic parents (increases likelihood of drug abuse by 400 times) are unfortunately unchangeable. NB cravings for the drug (psychological dependence) may persist long after any physical addiction ha been overcome. Share this article/news item: Digg it | del.icio.us | Stumble it! | Reddit | Furl |
